The then 6-year-old Gerrie van Alphen has been missing from Sittard since January 4, 1967.At the end of the afternoon he went to get his ball that had been left outside after playing. However, Gerrie did not return home. The ball was recovered from the Geleenbeek (a brook), which ran right behind the apartment building where Gerrie lived. At the time of his disappearance, Gerrie was wearing green and white checkered trousers, a red and white striped sweater, black football boots with white stripe and a blue hat with red and white stripes.
